The idea of Custom Collections

Collections enable students to curate and present their activities in different contexts.

We knew that students have multiple potential audiences: themselves, their friends and family, potential employers, graduate programs, and more.

Any given learning activity might be relevant to different audiences or in different sets of activities. An example is a tour of Japanese ceramics studios, that might be relevant in a Languages collection and in a Ceramics and in a Travel collection.

Go to the Collections above to see the ones we built for this Portfolio.

Here's a screenshot of a Poems collection from a second-year student. If a poem was on a specific topic -- say, poverty or mental illness -- it could go in a collection built for that topic.

Learning Significance

  1. Few students have used the Collections. We have learned that we need to continually show current users the deeper features of the platform. We will usually do so with email campaigns.
